Overview: Anthony Alfredo, driver of the No. 62 Death Wish Coffee Chevrolet Camaro for Beard Motorsports, finished XXX in Monday’s rain-postponed Daytona 500 at Daytona International Speedway. The driver from Ridgefield, CT started near the back but used the draft to work his way up to 21st by the end of the first stage. He pitted during the break for a four-tire stop and to fuel his Chevrolet Camaro. He restarted the second stage 26th after reporting that the car was handling well in the draft. From the start of the second stage, Alfredo worked the draft to catapult his way up to 10th. After pitting several times for fuel only, he finished 28th in the second stage. When the final segment of the race went green with 64 laps to go, Alfredo was running 23rd. He ran in the top-20 for a majority of the opening laps, getting as high as 11th by lap 160. As the laps were winding down, the No. 62 Death Wish Coffee Chevrolet was running in the top-20 and looked to avoid the “Big One” with eight to go, but ultimately got collected. The team pitted to repair damage and went a lap down. He ultimately avoided an accident on the final lap to finish 27th.
Anthony Alfredo, driver of the No. 62 Death Wish Coffee Chevrolet Camaro for Beard Motorsports: “I feel like I got more confident with each lap, and I started putting in the middle a lot because that’s where my car ran the fastest. Then, I actually started to make a couple of friends. It felt like the guys who would work with me were fellow Chevrolets, so that’s really good. It took a while to do that, but I think once I earned their trust that showed that I could push and be pushed to make moves. We found ourselves in the front there at the end and it’s all you could really ask for in this kind of race. I feel like I did every right tonight from pit stops to racing. Our No. 62 Death Wish Coffee team had fast pit stops and we honestly stayed out of trouble until the very end. We thought we made it through it and then one of the cars just came down and clobbered me. If we had cleared that, we would’ve had a great shot at finishing up front. That’s just superspeedway racing. I’m just blessed to be here and have this opportunity.”
